THE LUCIGONS

Lucigo is home to an interesting and native breed of horse that can only be described as the Lucigon. However, as is common in the Welsh Cob, it is best broken into Sections as they come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. The Lucigons are broken down into four sections, with lines that can be traced back to stallions that made them what they've become. While the sections have defining charactertistics, nothing is set in stone and they may still differ from their original classifications.

Lucigons come in many, many colors. However, through years and years of breeding, it is not uncommon to see more rare colorings in the true descendants.

HATSUL LUCIGONS This section possesses a bone structure and characteristics of Spanish bred horses. They tend to be more common as their populations have always been greater given the location of Lucigo. They tend to have heads with straight to concave foreheads while their noses tend to be convex. Their confomation is different than many other breeds with their front legs meeting in an "A." They have low-set tails and long, tapering muscles. Hatsul also tend towards longer strides and may even possess gaits that are unique to these sort of breeds. Their facial features tend to be very fine. They also tend towards having narrow, deep chests. Typically they will stand between 13-14.3 hh, though it isn't unheard to see one reaching 15 hands and beyond.

RAN LUCIGONS This section tends towards Warmblood breeds of horses. They tend to have arched necks that are high-set which also tend to be more well muscled. They have finely chiseled heads that narrow at the muzzle with broader foreheads. Rans have powerful hindquarters and long sloping shoulders. They are known for their more athletic movement and powerful bodies. They are taller than most other sections and tend to average somewhere between 15-16 hh though most tend towards the lower half of that spectrum.

ONOSS LUCIGONS This section is full of horses more similar to common Draft breeds. They possess upright shoulders which aids in more upright movement. They have shorter backs with powerful hindquarters with heavy bone. Onoss breeds also tend to have feathering upon their lower legs. They have straight profiles or even a "Roman Nose" which is defined as a convex profile. They tend to be hardy and long-lived with large heads and eyes which tend to be quite expressive. They also tend to wear thicker manes than most other breeds. They are the tallest of the breeds. At one time they could range from 16-18 hh though in recent years, through mixing and adaptation, they tend to range between 16-17, again with the average falling towards the lower end.

ELDBUR LUCIGONS This section is home to horses that fit in with more pony like characteristics. They have thicker manes, tails and coats which are unique to them. With fine heads, small ears and dished profiles, they are certainly interesting to look at. They are sturdy like their taller cousins with shofter legs. While considered fine, their heads tend to be shorter. Their withers are set broad and low with a low-set tail. They possess great agility which make them very nimble. This section may also possess feathering upon the lower legs. Easily the shortest of the sections, they sent to fall in the 13 hh range, with some growing larger given the cirumstance and climate.
