THE PAST

A long time ago, back when life was new on Lucigo, there existed four distinct breeds of equine. There were the powerful Onoss, the dwarf-like Eldbur, the majestic Hatsul, and the graceful Ran. However, despite them all being bound together by their species, the four groups hated each other. Interaction was forbidden, crossbreeding was unheard of, and war was the way of life. No one knows why there was such hatred between them since unfortunately the gift of written history is not a horse trait, and after centuries of unrest, they realized that they had no idea why they were fighting. Over a few decades the tension seemed to dissolve and the four blended in as one for the most part. A few of the Lucigons still carry the traits of their dominate ancestors – the Eldbur being the most noticeable – but for the most part the breeds have combined.

Peace has ruled over the island for as long as anyone can remember. No one remembers the bloody feuds of days long gone, tranquility feels like it has been the Lucigon way of life forever. Yes, there are herd disputes and normal dislike sometimes, but overall the population of the island paradise is quiet. Younger equine will tell you life was boring, they often found themselves praying to the gods for some sort of excitement. A good percent of the population will tell you that had they known the form of the gods’ answer to their prayers, they would’ve kept their mouths shut.

You see, about a year ago something happened that changed life on Lucigo forever. A strange vortex began popping up and quickly disappearing all over the island, leaving only strange, confused horses in its wake. These newcomers seem to have been picked up from all over the unknown universe and dropped onto what has been a safe haven for centuries. The native response is varied. Some welcome these refugees with open arms (so to speak), some ignore their very existence, some go out of their way to make their dislike of these foreigners known, and even a small percent avoid them at every step, hiding and praying to the gods for their forgiveness, for certainly these can only be the harbingers of the destruction of the island, the price that must be paid for questioning the gods’ plans. How things will proceed now is anyone’s guess, but one thing is certain: For the first time in remembered history, there is universal unease on Lucigo Island.
